My journey started with the stories of my grandparents, who were forced to leave their ancestral home behind during the great Partition of 1947, an event that separated families and rewrote the course of history. But with that loss came resilience, a will to start anew, and a deep reverence for the treasures that had once adorned their lives - treasures that were not just gold and jewels, but stories, memories, and love passed down through generations.
My grandparents, originally from India, settled in Pakistan after Partition. They left behind everything - their home, their land, their community, and, most poignantly, their family jewels. In an act of quiet defiance and hope, these precious heirlooms were buried in the courtyard of their home, a symbol of their belief that they would one day return. But as fate would have it, they never did.
In their new life, the promise of a return faded, but the legacy of family, tradition, and the power of heritage remained. My grandparents worked tirelessly, sacrificing their own comforts to ensure that their children had the opportunities they never had. They saved every penny they could, eventually buying gold to provide for their daughters' marriages, a gesture of love and continuity, even as they faced hardships.
